For 7 years, Howen & Ruhnke PLLC has served the greater Houston area from its offices in Cypress as a trusted advisor to clients of all types. As a small firm, we focus on both the client relationship and the work you need. We pick up the phone, answer e-mails and texts, and pay close attention to our clients.
Josh and Chris met at Saint Thomas University in 2005 in the Honors Program and have been friends ever since. Chris joined Josh in 2023, and the firm has continued to grow.
Josh has been practicing for 17 years, and Chris for 7. We have the relevant experience and expertise to serve clients of all types, from personal returns to international companies.
We offer a variety of services, from bookkeeping and tax returns to financial statements and more.

Joshua E. Howen, CPA, Managing Partner
I am a local CPA and live in Katy, Texas. I grew up in Cy-Fair and Katy and am a proud native Houstonian. I attended the University of Saint Thomas, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a minor in Philosophy and Honors in 2010. Shortly after that, I received my CPA license in 2011.
For my personal life, I married my high school sweetheart, Lindsey, in 2009. She has blessed our family with three children: Olivia, Logan, and Violet. My wife stays at home and cares for our children and me.
I have been practicing since 2009, and I very much enjoy being a CPA. For many people, the person they call first for financial or tax advice is their CPA. I pride myself on being excited to talk to any client contacting me with a question. To that end, brief phone calls are free! I encourage my clients to call me with any questions first so I can provide the best advice before any decisions are made. If I cannot help, I bet I know someone who can. If I do not know the answer, I will be the first person to tell you that I will call you back with an answer to your question.

Chris G. Ruhnke, CPA, Partner
I am a local CPA and live in Houston, Texas. I grew up in the Houston area and am a proud native Houstonian. I attended the University of Saint Thomas, earning a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with minors in Honors, Philosophy, and Spanish in 2009. Subsequently, I returned and earned a Master of Business Administration in 2018. Lastly, in April of 2022, I obtained my CPA license.
For my personal life, I married my college sweetheart, Cathy, in 2010. She has blessed our family with three children: Elizabeth, Luke, and Grace. My wife primarily stays at home and cares for our children and me.
I have been practicing since 2019, and I plan to practice for many years to come.
